A paving breaker plug & feathers set is a traditional rock-splitting tool used in conjunction with a paving breaker or hammer drill to split large stones, concrete, or boulders in a controlled manner.
- Design: It consists of a Plug (Wedge): A solid steel center piece that, when driven in, creates outward pressure; and Feathers (Shims): Two curved metal pieces placed on either side of the plug to guide the splitting force. By inserting the plug & feathers into a pre-drilled hole and striking the plug with a paving breaker, controlled fractures occur, allowing precise breaking of materials without the use of explosives or large cutting equipment.
- Applications:
- Quarrying & Mining: Splitting large rocks into manageable sizes for transport; extracting stone blocks with minimal material waste.
- Construction & Demolition: Breaking up reinforced concrete slabs or foundations; removing unwanted rock formations during excavation.
- Roadwork & Infrastructure: Splitting boulders obstructing road construction; cutting through bedrock for pipe and tunnel installations.
- Landscaping & Stonework: Shaping large natural stones for decorative use; preparing stones for custom masonry or sculptures.
- Urban & Historic Restoration: Controlled demolition of stone structures without damaging adjacent areas; preserving stone materials for reuse in renovations.
- Material: Made from high-quality, heat-treated steel for enhanced hardness, impact strength, and long-term durability.
- Configurations: 1-1/8″ and 1-1/4″ Hex diameter shanks and 6″ shank lengths, hole diameter of 1-1/2″ and 2″.
